Burnout is a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by excessing or prolonged stress. These are the key words here, many-people only associate burnout with being in the workplace but that isn’t the case. We are all human beans and we will all experience stress at some point in our lives. 

When we are experiencing stress there is a feeling like ‘there is too much’ when we hit burnout we feel like ‘there isn’t enough’.

When it comes to burnout, there are usually two main issues.

The first is to identify and recognise that you are in it or on the way to it. Many people don’t recognize signs of burnout until it is too late. The second issue is knowing how to recover and change the behaviours that have caused it.

Whether your burnout is coming from a demanding family dynamic, juggling too many thing or a high workload let’s work out a path forward for you that creates positive changes so that you can create a life that feels good and looks after your wellbeing.

You don’t have to hate your work to burnout. A study showed that even when professionals felt passionate about their work, 87 percent of them burned out from the stress given the right series of events taking place.

Burnout is a condition characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and feelings of reduced effectiveness. It is often referred to in the context of the workplace but often if occurs from life not just within the workplace.

Signs and symptoms:

These can be physical, mental or emotional and can include:

  • Headaches/migraines
  • Muscle Tension
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feeling frustrated
  • Feeling unfulfilled or empty
  • Easily overwhelmed and flustered
  • Cynical about life
  • Low every levels
  • Feeling helpless, hopeless or resentful

  • Irritable or a short fuse
  • Tired even when you rest a lot
  • Brain fog, unable to think clearly
  • Forgetfulness
